Shell Flare Consent Decree Lodged

On February 12, 2018, the Department of Justice lodged a proposed consent decree with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The alleged violations involve flares used at a chemical plant owned and operated by Shell Chemical LP in Norco, Louisiana.

The consent decree requires the defendant to perform injunctive relief, including operating a facility fenceline
monitoring system, and pay $350,000 in civil penalties, with $262,500 to be paid to the United States and $87,500 to be paid to LDEQ.
